The lagoon inside the rocky island was a sight to behold. Surrounded by rocks, the clear water was even more dramatic with the waves breaking through the rocks then into the lagoon. The water was just chest deep so you was able to swim and even tried some floating.
Sorsogon (Bikol: Probinsya kan Sorsogon; Filipino: Lalawigan ng Sorsogon), is a province in the Philippines located in the Bicol Region. It is the southernmost province in Luzon and is subdivided into fourteen municipalities (towns) and one city. Its capital is Sorsogon City (formerly the towns of Sorsogon and Bacon) and borders the province of Albay to the north.
Sorsogon is most famous for the whale sharks in Donsol, but this province is home to so much more than just the gentle giants. Located in Brgy. Sawangga in the town of Bacon, Paguriran Island, also known as Paguriran Beach.
Paguriran Island – How to get there?
By Bus: From Manila, take a bus bound for Sorsogon. St. Martha Bus Line and Elavil, Penafrancia and Isarog Lines have daily trips bound to Sorsogon City. (fair P700 – 1500; depending on season). Travel time is about 14 hours from Manila
Once you get to Sorsogon, look for the jeepney terminal going to Barangay Sawanga, Bacon. Drop off point is the long beach where Paguriran Island is located.
From Sorsogon Town Proper and head to the local SM Savemore. There will be a jeepney and tricycle terminal right beside it. Take a jeepney here bound for Sawangga and tell the driver that you’re bound to Paguriran. You may also choose to rent a tricycle (P500 one way, good for 3 to 4 persons).
0PTION: From Sorsogon City head to the jeepney terminal near Petron or Caltex Station. Ride a jeepney en route to Sawanga, Bacon and tell the driver to drop you off at Paguriran Island. The resort fronting the island is less than five-minute walk from the road. Alternatively you may rent a tricycle from the city to have your own private transport to the island and back. If you decide to drop by at Bacon District to check out its beaches, you can either transfer to another jeepney en route to Sawanga or rent a boat from here to Paguriran Island, about 40 minutes’ ride.
By Air: From Manila Nearest Airport: Legazpi International Airport (Albay) (almost 1 hour travel)
Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines run flights to Legazpi International Airport.
From the airport, take a tricycle to the Legazpi Central Terminal and board a van to Sorsogon.
